FAQ
IS STONE HOUSE RIGHT FOR ME?
We are a small, boutique hotel located just 10 minutes from downtown Ubud. Our deep emphasis is in the property’s distinctive character, authentic Balinese style meets rustic chic with an underlying sense of luxury and comfort. Every space, from the custom-made furniture to the meticulously chosen details, is designed to align with nature. Personality is at the core of everything we do, pushing us to add that extra touch in all our endeavors. We aim to offer a private guest experience, working closely with you to craft bespoke experiences for each visitor.
Our main public space, The Lodge is the central hub of Stone House, where guests can relax on an oversized sofa adorned with Indonesian textiles, enjoy a game of chess or eat a meal at our oversized communal table while gazing at the gardens beyond. We have an open-plan kitchen, so you can interact with our chefs while they whip up delicious homemade meals. It is welcoming and very informal….we don’t have a traditional front desk and guests often come barefoot to chat with the staff.
No two rooms are alike. Our fantastical sleeping quarters each feature a very unique design. One displays hand-painted, antique murals from a Javanese palace, another is a curvy, gravity-defying bamboo treehouse, and lastly, one is constructed from centuries-old timber. Interiors are adorned with unique artifacts collected by the owners during their travels and include a collection of vibrant textiles, Indonesian artifacts, and original paintings grace the walls. The rooms and suites are created from raw, authentic materials such as stone, grass and bamboo. Ironwood timbers, hundreds of years old, salvaged timber from docks and bridges form the structures of the buildings. Teams of skilled Indonesian craftsmen hewed the wood, stacked the seven-meter stone walls, wove grass thatch and carved the intricate details. All furniture, lighting, and accessories were designed and made by the owner/designer to elicit the essence of originality and authenticity.
We have a small organic farm that produces a portion of our fruit and vegetables for the kitchen. Guests choose between in-room dining or our large, communal table where guests can dine together everyday. In the morning they are strangers and by nightfall they become friends getting to know each other, swapping stories over breakfast or dinner. Our amazing chefs serves deliciously fragrant, Indonesian cuisine that is home-cooked, and similar to your grandmother’s treasured, family recipes. The food here is one of our best-kept secrets.
